Why I’m Switching to Tasks.org — My New FOSS To-Do List Obsession 📋✨

If you’re like me - juggling work, side projects, and personal goals - you’ve probably tried a dozen task apps. Most are slick, but locked behind paywalls, cloud syncs you don’t control, or creepy data policies.

Then I found Tasks.org - and it’s a game-changer.

🧩 What Is Tasks.org?

  • License: Free and Open Source (GPLv3)
  • Platform: Android (yes, Android-only - but that’s part of its charm)
  • Repo: GitHub
  • No ads. No tracking. No account required.
  • Syncs with CalDAV - so you can use it with Nextcloud, Fastmail, Infomaniak Mail, or any CalDAV server.

✅ Why I Love It

  • Simplicity with power: Clean UI, but supports subtasks, priorities, tags, recurring tasks, and even custom fields.
  • Offline-first: Works without internet. Your tasks are yours — no vendor lock-in.
  • Privacy built-in: No data leaves your device unless you choose to sync via CalDAV.
  • Customizable: Dark mode, themes, widgets, and even supports multiple task lists (work, personal, groceries — you name it).

🤔 Not Perfect? Nope. But Honest.

  • No iOS or desktop app (yet). But you can use it with OpenTasks on desktop or via CalDAV in Thunderbird or KOrganizer.
  • No built-in reminders (but you can set them via your calendar sync).

💬 Final Thoughts

Tasks.org isn’t trying to be the flashiest app. It’s trying to be the right app - for people who care about freedom, privacy, and control.

If you’re on Android and tired of proprietary to-do apps… give it a shot. You might just fall in love.
